First place on my quest for a great Mexican restaurant.

by gasm2970

I am from a looooong line of fantastic Mexican cooks and everytime I go to a Mexican restaurant I have something to complain about. This time I was pleasantly surprised. I work right behind the reataurant and all I had seen of the restaurant was a door that said "La Carreta Door bloked" which always amused me. I wanted lunch but didnt want to lose my prime parking space so I walked over to give it a try. I was greeted immediately by a friendly person at the front who went to get my order (I called it in.) The decor was very homey and reminded me of my grandma's house in Mexico. The smells coming from the kitchen were making my mouth water. I was in and out in 3 minutes. I had a carne asada burrito with guacamole, beans and pico and rice and beans. Tte guacamole was so fresh and not mixed with anything to make it go farther and tasted like avocados, the pico was so fresh you could taste the jalapenos and tomatoes. the beans were delicious with the perfect texture. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cut into tiny pieces so you didnt get a huge chunk of meat you couldn't chew through. Nothing was skimped on. The rice was a little bland but delicious compared to the hundreds of other mexican restaurants I've been to. Their green chile salsa is divine!! you can taste the smokiyness of the roasted chiles which had the perfect kick. I'd never had a fresher tsting restaurant meal.. I will be having my lunch meal from there for many days to come and will certainly take the rest of my family. KUDOS!!!

  • Pros: the food was very fresh and DELICIOUS!
  • Cons: tortillas would be better is handmade

BEST and FRESHEST Mexican Food in Colorado Springs

by buffybot

When my fiance and I pulled into the parking lot of a very unattractive stripmall where La Carreta resides, we hesitated to go in. This place had come highly recommended by friend, so we decided to give it a shot. The atmosphere was quaint and humble, warm and inviting. The pico de gallo tasted like it had been made a minute prior to serving with a heaping endless basket of what appeared to be homemade tortilla chips. I ordered chicken enchiladas verdes which couldn't have been simpler, but which were so bold and tangy I am still salivating over them a week later. My fiance ordered the shrimp tostadas and we were both stunned when they arrived stacked high with so much shrimp I couldn't believe they were so inexpensive. We have decided to make this little restaurant a weekly destination! The only negative: Don't order the Margaritas, stick with the imported beers.

  • Pros: fresh wholesome food
  • Cons: margaritas, slow service during dinner rush, phone number listed is wrong
