Though its country decor has been modernized by sleek table lamps and wall hangings, what arrives at the glossy wood tables is nothing but down-home, classic comfort food. Crusty chicken-fried steak with white gravy, slow-cooked pot roast and meat loaf can be paired with the restaurant's namesake vegetables and come with a homemade biscuit. Sweet fruit cobblers, served in a bowl or cup with ice cream, are what Southern grandmas are famous for.

we really enjoyed our visit to the black eyed pea at garden of the gods, the server helped us by offering "tasters" of certain food items such as the soup and the cobbler to help in making a selection!!! only place that used to do that wasan ice cream place with pink spoons. really enjoyed it!!!

• Pros: call ahead seating, NO SMOKING-YEAH, lots of salads
